9/17/20 – New Covenant Worship (Article)

“God is righteous, glorious, everlasting, possesses all authority over all things, and will never change forever and ever.”

That’s the kind of stuff you’ll hear in just about every worship song sung in the church today. And guess what? That’s not the gospel.

You could’ve sung that in the Old Testament! Sure, it’s true, but in what way does that honor what Jesus has done for us? It doesn’t. You could’ve sung that if Jesus NEVER came! Think about it.

How about this?

“God is righteous, glorious, everlasting, possesses all authority over all things, and will never change forever and ever. And because of Jesus, that’s me too.”

That’s the gospel! Jesus actually did something there! See?

Praise and worship shouldn’t be your way of complementing God. That’s not the purpose of worship. It should be you thanking God for WHAT YOU HAVE THROUGH JESUS! If that’s missing, so is the Gospel.
