The Pastor yells, “God is good!“ And we say, “All the time!“ Did you know that is completely untrue?
While it’s true that God‘s nature is always good, it is absolutely untrue that God is constantly “providing good to us.” That is entirely false.
What can I possibly mean by that? I mean, that while God‘s nature is good, He is absolutely done providing that goodness to us (Rom. 5:8). God is NOT being good to you all the time.
Hebrews 7:27 (NKJV) …who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices… for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.
Every single bit of goodness that God has ever wanted to demonstrate toward us happened “once for all.“ You’d be more accurate in saying “God WAS good, once for all time” because God’s provision of goodness is not a day-to-day thing for us. His goodness is not being provided “all the time,” contrary to what we say in the church. His goodness happened once. That “one time” at the cross demonstrated all the goodness and provided everything you could ever need. There’s no goodness left to provide. That’s why Jesus said “It is finished!”
God’s goodness endures forever, but He’s not providing it to you anymore because Jesus provided it all once! Any goodness that you walk in today is just a manifestation of what Jesus provided to you 2,000 years ago. So God is not being good all the time. God WAS good, once for all time. There’s only need for us to believe it and receive today from what Jesus already did.
