Some people feel very confident in their intellect. They’re very confident in their ability to understand things and speak intelligently about many different topics. Personally, I would rather say something foolish as I’m growing, but know that Jesus is my wisdom, then for everyone to think I’m so intelligent, and yet be a fool to God.
1 Corinthians 1:25-26 (NKJV) Because the foolishness of God [referring to believers] is wiser than men, and the weakness of God [still referring to believers] is stronger than men. For you see YOUR calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.
“The foolishness of God” here is referring to believers who, in their fleshly mind, are not wise on their own. But now they are “of God” and have His wisdom. Hence, he calls them “the foolishness of God.” He says that the foolishness of God is wiser than men! That means that a believer, despite having a foolish physical mind, is wiser than everyone else, because he has traded his intellect (or lack of it) for the mind of Christ!
(He confirms that “the foolishness of God” is talking about his fellow believers by saying, “For you see YOUR calling brethren. You were foolish!”)
So don’t take any pride in human IQ or intelligence. All of it will perish and those who rely on it will be manifested as truly foolish in the end. Depend on the IQ that you’ve been given freely through Jesus. That’s the only wisdom that counts. That’s the only wisdom that makes any true difference.
