John 11:23-26 (NKJV) Jesus said to her [to Martha], “Your brother will rise again… I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?“
There are certainly times when you genuinely don’t know what God has to say about your situation. In cases like that, you need to continue to listen to the Lord and let Him show you what He says about you. But there are other times, like in Martha’s case, when Jesus has already given you a word.
Jesus already gave Martha a word about her brother. Jesus said that her brother would rise again, because Jesus is the resurrection and the life (for people’s physical bodies – Romans 8:11). But then Jesus asked her an important question. He asked her, “Do you believe this?“ See? He gave her His truth, but then allowed her to choose who she was going to heed and believe.
Sometimes, when Jesus has already given you a word, He simply asks you, “Do you believe this?“ Are you going to believe what everybody’s telling you, or are you going to believe the word of God? As much as we need to continue to grow in the word of God, sometimes God has already spoken to you about your situation, and you need to make up your mind as to who you’re going to believe now — who are you going to heed. We get that choice.
Sometimes we worry because we don’t have a word from God and we’re ignorant. Other times, we worry because we’ve been listening to other things and we simply need to sit down, shake our head, and ask ourselves, “Wait, who do I believe? Am I going to believe what the Lord said or not?” And let His word be good enough.
