It’s very popular to speak about “loving God with your life“ in the church today. But did you know that you can’t love God with your life? And did you know that “loving God with your life“ is actually not in the Bible? Loving God is simply believing what Jesus did for you!
Look at how Peter speaks about loving God:
1 Peter 1:8 (NKJV) whom having not seen you LOVE. Though now you do not see Him, yet BELIEVING…
First he says “You haven’t seen God, but you love Him.” Then he says “You haven’t seen God, yet believing…” He uses love and belief interchangeably.
Not enough proof? No problem. Check out how Jesus spoke about loving the Lord:
Matthew 22:37-39 (NKJV) Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
Ok, just to be clear, what was Jesus’ first commandment? He said to love the Lord with your heart, right? Well, check out how John quotes this EXACT same commandment:
1 John 3:23 (NKJV) And this is His commandment: that we should BELIEVE on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.
Jesus said to love the Lord with your heart, and love your neighbor. THEN John quotes these commandments as “believing on Jesus“ and “loving one another.“
You see, loving God is no more than believing what Jesus did for you! Living for God actually happens by the Holy Spirit, as you renew your mind, not by you (Galatians 2:20, Romans 12:2).
God wants you to love Him by simply understanding the love He showed to YOU, through Jesus! That’s it. It’s simple. It’s easy. And it’s the only love that God wants from you. And that concept is actually in the Bible.
John 16:27 (KJV) For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have LOVED ME, and have BELIEVED that I came out from God.
