Something that believers don’t talk about too much is the respect and honor that we have from God. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that we’ve done some good work to impress God, but because we have chosen to believe Jesus, the Father respects you for that.
John 12:26 (KJV) …if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
If you’ve heard our “Obedience Of Faith“ teachings, you know that our service to God is to believe in Jesus (John 6:29). When Jesus speaks of “serving Him“ that’s referring to faith. So essentially Jesus says, “If you believe me, my Father respects you.” The word “honor” here, literally means “to prize, to fix value, to honor, to revere.”
It’s really something quite noteworthy, beyond words, to know that God respects you. We need to derive our dignity from knowing that the Lord respects us. When you know that, it makes the respect of human beings just sound foolish. Whose respect do you desire if the God who created all things looks at you and tells you “You have My respect, because you chose to believe My Son.“ I simply don’t know what compares to that.
It’s good to know that God loves us. That fulfills that longing in us to know that someone has a deep affection for us. But people also have a longing to know that they are appreciated and respected. People go on feeling undignified and unimportant if they don’t have that respect. The good thing is, you will never know what it’s like to be without that. No believer ever will, because you have honor, respect, and appreciation from the God of all things for choosing to believe His Son.
