Every single bit of the good news that God wants to tell you revolves around the past. Every message that we hear at church should also revolve around the past, because everything that you could possibly need or want was provided once for all time, 2000 years ago.
John 19:30 (NKJV) So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
Any blessing that someone receives today, any fruit that the Spirit bears through us today, and any miracle that is performed through someone today, is something that was already provided 2,000 years ago. These are not things that God is currently providing to people now. God is not currently providing for your needs. These things may be received by people today, but God paid for it through His Son a long time ago.
Even when the Bible refers to our bodily healing, it says, that by Jesus stripes we WERE healed (past tense – 1 Peter 2:24). Why does he use the past tense? Because although that healing power can, and should, be received by people today, it was already provided for you through Jesus’ suffering, in the past.
And now, Jesus is sitting down at the right hand of God. And despite any calamity that happens in the world, any misfortune that befalls people, or any problem that you may have, Jesus continues to sit, unmoved. This is not a testament to some apathy that Jesus has toward people’s problems, but it’s rather a testament to how finished everything really is. The Lord heard your cry for help before you ever cried it. And He sent help 2,000 years ago.
Jesus cannot provide more than He already has. It is simply a matter of whether people want to learn and believe what He has already done, so that they can receive from that past tense provision! Regarding anything you could possibly encounter in this world, Jesus said it best… It is finished!
