Some Christians find themselves in a strange position. They feel like they lack desire and enthusiasm for God, but they truly want to desire Him more. You could say, they “want to want God more,” if that makes sense.
In any situation that you go through, if you are confused, lacking confidence, discouraged, or just don’t know what to think (which none of us do on our own)… you need the voice of God.
As a believer, if you find yourself envious of what someone else has or what someone else can do or if you find that you’re disappointed in yourself because you’re comparing yourself to somebody else, here are two biblical principles that will remedy that with some time and meditation.
Positive thinking is of no use. Being optimistic is just another way of saying that you’re lying to yourself (only seeing the good side of things). The Gospel is not based on optimism but on facts — not seeing the rosey side of things, but seeing the full scope of things and how good all of it is.
Why does God say to live by faith instead of by what you see? Well, you have everything in Christ. You have everything going for you. God has redeemed you, provided for you and has qualified you to walk in all of it! But guess what? Your eyes could never tell you that. Never.
How many times have you heard that your joy should be unconditional? That you should be happy no matter what happens? They say, “If somebody wins and you lose, just be happy anyway.“ They say, “If somebody has more than you, at least be happy for them.” They say, “Even if your life is hard right now, just be happy and praise the Lord regardless of what’s going on.”
We speak a lot about what Jesus provided, but recently we explained WHY Jesus provided us what He did. We said that His motivation was for your enjoyment — simply to make you happy. This is not just something to make you feel better. This is, in fact, a biblically proven fact. God shared everything He has with you to make you happy! That’s the real reason.
This may sound overly simplistic, but it’s a heck of a revelation. Do you know why God provided what He provided for you? We talk about WHAT God provided through Jesus — life and immortality, righteousness and rest from your works. But do you know WHY God wanted to provide these things to you? Do you know what his motive was? Here it is:
Psalms 34:4 (NKJV) I sought the LORD, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears.
If Jesus already delivered us from everything we could ever be afraid of, and yet we still fear something, that fear cannot be based in reality. We are seeing something incorrectly if we are in fear. Both cannot be true at the same time. Jesus cannot have delivered you from all your fears already at the cross and you still have a valid fear. True, people can still fear things, but it is no longer a valid fear. It’s merely something about the cross they aren’t realizing right now.
Psalms 34:4 (NKJV) I sought the LORD, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears.
If Jesus has delivered us from everything we could possibly be afraid of, then fear can be defined as simply some absence of the knowledge of what Jesus did.
Psalms 34:4 (NKJV) I sought the LORD, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears.
That verse is referring to what Jesus did when He came. He delivered us from everything that we could possibly fear. So it’s no wonder that when our minds become perfected in what Jesus did, it casts out ALL fear.
