ARROW

Definition

Possibly the same as “Sword.” Something that divides, shatters (see “Sword”).

Scripture

  • Arrows are often used in the same symbolism as swords.

Psalms 57:4 (KJV) My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

Psalms 64:3 (KJV) Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words:

Deuteronomy 32:42 (KJV) I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh; and that with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenges upon the enemy.

  • Arrows are said to “scatter or shatter” along with the word “sword.”

Proverbs 25:18 (KJV) A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul [lit. scatterer], and a sword, and a sharp arrow.

2 Samuel 22:15 (KJV) And he sent out arrows, and scattered [lit. dispersed, dash in pieces] them; lightning, and discomfited them.

Numbers 24:8 (NAS95) He will devour the nations who are his adversaries, And will crush their bones in pieces, And shatter them with his arrows.
