CLIFF (ALSO TRANSLATED ROCK)
Definition:
Similar or the same as Mountain/Hill — Heaven or a native of Heaven.
Scripture:
- Used synonymously with “hills” (see defintion for Mountain/Hills).
Numbers 23:9 (KJV) For from the top of the rocks [lit. cliff] I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.
Psalms 104:18 (KJV) The high hills are a refuge for the wild goats; and the rocks for the conies.
- Compare these next two verses. The Old Testament version says “hills” and the New Testament quote says “rocks (cliffs).”
Hosea 10:8 (KJV) …and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.
Revelation 6:16 (KJV) And said to the mountains and rocks [or cliffs], Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb…
- The cliffs are said to be on high, among the stars.
Obadiah 1:3-5 (KJV) The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock [lit. cliff], whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground [earth] 4 Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.
LITERAL TRANSLATION:
…thou that dwellest in the clefts of the cliff, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the earth?
