The law of works made it clear that we cannot be righteous, saved, blessed or accepted by our works. The Gospel makes it clear that we CAN be absolutely righteous, saved, blessed and accepted because of Jesus.
THE PRICE WAS PAID BY JESUS
God sent His Son, taking on flesh, born of a woman by the Holy Spirit, in order to bear sin and judgment for it (Romans 8:3).
John 12:31-33 MKJV
Now is the judgment of this world… He said this, signifying what kind of death He was about to die.
All judgment for sin came upon Jesus at the cross. There is no sin that Jesus was not judged for.
Our judgment took place upon Jesus, which means that it can never come upon you. God will never judge you for sin; He has already judged sin.
Jesus was judged for our sin. Now, instead of judgment toward you, God extends a free gift of righteousness to you which you can receive by simply believing.
2 Corinthians 5:21 NKJV
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
RIGHTEOUS ONCE FOR ALL TIME
We receive this gift of righteousness because of what Jesus did, therefore you cannot lose it by something you do (Romans 3:28). It is irreversible.
Jesus was offered one time, for all sins, forever. This means that when you receive this sacrifice He makes you righteous once and it lasts forever.
Hebrews 10:12 NKJV
But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God,
Hebrews 9:11-12 NASB
But when Christ appeared as a high priest… through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
Daniel 9:24 NKJV
…To finish the transgression, To make an end of sins, To make reconciliation for iniquity, To bring in everlasting righteousness…
Because of Jesus, God is just to forgive us and cleanses us of ALL unrighteousness. All of this happens at one point in time (1 John 1:8-9).
SAVED ONCE FOR ALL TIME
This also means that when you are saved, you are saved forever. The Holy Spirit comes inside of you and guarantees salvation. You become reserved for eternal life when Jesus comes back (Ephesians 1:13-14).
Ephesians 4:30 NKJV
…the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption [when Jesus comes back].
You cannot lose your salvation.
DOESN’T HEBREW 6 SPEAK OF PEOPLE LOSING THEIR SALVATION?
It is true that there are people who taste (that’s an important word) of the Gospel, taste of God’s Spirit, taste of God’s power and then fall away. But people like this were never saved. They never received from God, they only taste (the Spirit falls often on them but they never drink Him in – Hebrews 6:7-8, John 4:10).
If someone “falls away” from the faith, they didn’t lose their salvation, it is simply manifest that they were never saved (John 8:31).
1 John 2:19 NKJV
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.
You cannot lose your righteousness, your salvation or your forgiveness. Jesus’ one sacrifice ensures this.
